Eric Fernandez, CFA, has 30+ years of research and investment banking experience in company modeling, equity valuation and credit is the backbone of Two Rivers Analytics analytical approach.
He founded Two Rivers to remedy a shortfall of traditional short idea generation which relies primarily on thematic, top-down processes. Instead, Two Rivers combines a methodical framework to sift through the universe looking for markers of various types of short candidates, which are subsequently vetted via traditional fundamental analysis.
Before founding TRA, he was Senior Strategist at an Institutional Investor (II) ranked independent research firm where he created a family of factor-based long/short stock selection models. He conducted the backtesting that formed the basis of their models, developed the firm’s risk appetite index, built all historical industry and sector databases and wrote research focused on factor behavior and sector/industry recommendations.
Previously, he was employed at Salomon Smith Barney, Oppenheimer and Kleinwort Benson where he advised on mergers, divestitures and acquisitions for US, European and Latin American companies. His transaction experience involved leading teams in due diligence, preparing valuations and fairness opinions, running divestiture processes, and structuring and negotiating transactions across many industries, including energy, healthcare, software and IT services, building products and media. Prior to his M&A work, he served as a credit analyst involved in leveraged lending and distressed debt restructurings with US and European financial institutions.
He holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and FINRA Series 7, 24, 86 & 87 licenses. He earned degrees in Finance from Wharton Business School and the University of Florida. Eric volunteers as an industry mentor and judge for NYSSA and Stamford CFA Society university programs.
